Our Client
Interior Health Authority (IHA), with head offices in Kelowna B.C., serves a region that stretches from Williams Lake to the US border, and from Anahim Lake in the Chilcotin to the Alberta border—incorporating approximately 741,000 people. The organization strives to ensure that each citizen within Interior Health region has access to quality care and health support. The authority manages 35 acute care sites employing over 17,500 employees and 1,300 physicians.
The Need
The health authority wanted to improve its attendance management capabilities using performance goals and personalized metrics. It was specifically interested in reducing employee sick and overtime costs and knew that an important first step toward attaining this goal was improved access to these metrics. IHA had a data warehouse that captured the data and needed a mechanism for communicating the information to the management community. Quadrus was engaged to build a system that would enable personalized metrics and reports to be delivered to management through a Business Intelligence portal.
Our Solution
Quadrus created an application that links into their corporate portal providing a home page view for displaying high-level statistics and data trends. The user is able to drill into the high-level statistics to see summaries based on departments and further drill into underlying Business Objects reports for complete detail. The application was built using ASP.NET, C#, and a SQL Server backend.
Quadrus also built an administrative system for managing access to this new web application. Built using Windows Forms and C#, the application offered a way for an administrator to set up new metrics, specify candidates or departments, and perform overrides. It also provided the filtering functionality necessary to set up specific users, grant or deny access, and specify viewing permissions.
The Result
Faced with tight timelines, IHA and Quadrus worked together both efficiently and effectively to meet all of the project goals and deadlines. IHA’s role was critical in this positive outcome in that they provided the superior project management skills necessary to make this project a success—not to mention an in-depth understanding of the associated data, business domain and end users. In the end, not only were IHA’s project goals attained on time, but they were achieved under budget as well. IHA is pleased with its newfound ability to view performance metrics and gain insight into where potential issues might lie and why—and will, ultimately, enhance its ability to serve its clients even better.
