An Export Energy Enterprise 

This leading Canadian export energy producer recognized a need for a new document management system. The client wanted to mitigate risk so a decision was made to conduct a pilot project to determine the solution's feasibility for wider implementation. Quadrus was engaged to evaluate the organization's need, identify technology options, and work with the client to implement a production solution.

Quadrus put forward several tools and the client chose Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) as the basis for its pilot web portal project. At the time of implementation, this was a bleeding-edge technology and the client's selection was forward-thinking. SPS provided an Internet-enabled view into the system, permitted external partners to view documents for project status and/or contributions, and offered the ability to search, publish and collaborate on documents.

With this new solution, a Project Manager no longer had to spend her time organizing the repository and deciding where documents fit into the folders structure. The system would reduce process and free up time for the Project Manager to do other, more meaningful tasks. No longer would the Project Manager be faced with organizing the high volume of documents, deciding where they fit into the folders structure, and spending time on manual search and retrieval. This new web-based portal system creates a centralized location for managing, accessing and sharing project information. The system can also be set up for secure collaboration with external partners and other users.
