HOW WE DO IT - Case StudiesFraser Milner Casgrain LLP Objective:Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP required a means to address the volume of audit requests they were receiving in an efficient and timely manner.
Solution:Together, FMC and Quadrus created an ASP.NET solution that in addition to streamling the audit process also reduced the staff’s work effort and associated email volumes. Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC) is one of Canada’s leading business law firms. With more than 550 lawyers in six Canadian offices, FMC is a national firm with strengths in each of the country’s key business centres.
Thousands of audit requests are received each year from corporate auditors working on behalf of various FMC clients. At FMC, the current means to service these requests was through broadcast emails to all FMC staff (over 1500 recipients) requesting details of any claims or potential claims.
FMC desired an enhanced method of receiving and distributing this information. The firm recognized that this would reduce the work effort associated with the audit response process. The firm also identified that, in targeting the email to a specific recipient list, the organization’s email volume would decrease, as would the time required for staff to review each request.
In order to affect timely delivery and a quality solution, FMC engaged Quadrus to augment their internal development team and provide technical recommendations, analysis & design and project management services. Quadrus recognized that ASP.NET could offer significant advantages to FMC, including simplified development, sustainment which would translate to a reduction in the overall cost of ownership of the solution.
An ASP.NET solution to manage the creation and lifecycle of audit requests utilizing targeted email distribution was co-developed by Quadrus and FMC. This system also required integration with their accounting, document management and corporate directory systems. Quadrus and FMC developed web pages using ASPX, enabling users to easily enter audit request information, select recipients, send emails and provide summary reports of audit requests and responses.
Overall, the solution was cost effective due in part to the direct benefits of ASP.NET. FMC is pleased with its solution and its ability to better manage and track audit requests. Having a web-based tool versus requests arriving by email, fax, and telephone has made the audit information request process more streamlined, efficient, and has resulted in time-savings for the organization.
