HOW WE DO IT - Case Studies
Interior Health Authority
Objective:
To provide training and mentoring for IHA's Business Objects reporting environment
Solution:
Quadrus configured, set up and managed IHA's Business Objects reporting environment while mentoring its internal people on the establishment of business intelligence best practices Interior Health Authority (IHA), with head offices in Kelowna B.C., serves a region that stretches from Williams Lake to the US border, and from Anahim Lake in the Chilcotin to the Alberta border—incorporating approximately 690,000 people. The organization strives to ensure that each citizen within Interior Health region has access to quality care and health support. The authority manages 35 acute care sites employing over 17,000 employees and 1,200 physicians.
IHA tasked Quadrus with configuring, setting up and managing its Business Objects reporting environment while mentoring its internal people on the establishment of business intelligence best practices. Business Objects reporting capabilities sit atop the organization's data warehouse and provide business users with the functionality for making queries, customized reports, and presentation reports. IHA had invested in this Business Objects reporting system and were embarking on a related data-warehousing project to enhance its overall enterprise resource planning (ERP) capabilities. Its goal was to get this type of useful enterprise data and "self-service reporting" as far out into the organization as possible.
IHA understood the benefits of using Quadrus mentoring in that they could acquire immediate access to Business Objects and data warehousing expertise. Internal IHA personnel met with a Quadrus mentor to walk through any issues, development concerns or questions that arose. This co-development scenario enabled IHA to address concerns in an efficient manner and get immediate advice when necessary, rather than taking the time and resources to research solutions themselves. IHA was able to draw from Quadrus' experience and immediately understand potential pitfalls without having to experience them first hand—and, as a result, were able to shorten their development time and reduce the potential for costly errors.
IHA put Quadrus' expertise to work for them. By leveraging Quadrus' Business Objects skills, Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) platform experience and BI best practices knowledge, it not only has a new Business Objects reporting system but a multidimensional database enabling it to see enterprise data in a whole new light.
