Contract Management Website Development at Direct Energy

Our Client

Direct Energy is Alberta’s newest energy retailer. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Centrica plc, a leading U.K.-based supplier of energy and home services with more than 45 million customers worldwide.

Direct Energy provides nearly five million home and business customers across North America with solutions to track, understand, and control their use of electricity and natural gas. They also provide insights into how to be more energy efficient and save money.

The Need

Direct Energy wanted to develop an application that could ease communication between themselves and their partners. Given the sheer volume of files that needed to be exchanged, effective file management was becoming increasingly cumbersome and time-consuming.

Specifically, Direct Energy was looking for an enhanced, highly automated application that could automate incoming data, automatically extract files to a central database repository, and share information for billing purposes.

Direct Energy felt that a new Windows.NET-based application could provide the fast response time they needed, automate incoming data and automatically extract files to a central database, and provide a rich, end-user interface. They contacted Quadrus to help them achieve these goals.

Our Solution

Quadrus worked closely with Direct Energy’s end-users to effectively define, refine, and fulfill the necessary requirements and features.

Quadrus then developed a .NET forms application based on this feedback to enable Direct Energy to quickly and easily share customer information without relying on the cumbersome process of exchanging flat data files.

Quadrus created a new system using Microsoft® SQL Server technologies to improve workflow and generate a central repository. We also incorporated advanced features to enable data standardization among the many disparate systems.

The new system detected new files as they arrived, merged them into a standard format, and automatically imported them to a database for easier querying, data analysis, and reporting.

Direct Energy also required a compliance control system to adhere to strict governmental legislation regarding access to regulated and deregulated customer information. To provide a secure and efficient approval system and control of database access, Quadrus used ASP.NET to enable easy deployment and email notification integration.
