Interior Health Authority (IHA), with head offices in Kelowna B.C., serves a region that stretches from Williams Lake to the US border, and from Anahim Lake in the Chilcotin to the Alberta border — incorporating approximately 741,000 people.
IHA strives to ensure each Interior Health region citizen has access to quality care and health support, managing 35 acute care sites with more than 17,500 employees and 1,300 physicians.
IHA wanted to improve its attendance management capabilities using performance goals and personalized metrics. They were specifically interested in reducing employee sick, and overtime costs, and recognized improved access to these types of metrics was key to attaining this goal.
IHA had a data warehouse that captured the data but needed a mechanism for communicating the information to management. Quadrus was engaged to build a Business Intelligence portal system to enable the delivery of personalized metrics and reports.
Quadrus developed a web application using ASP.NET, C#, and a SQL Server backend to link to IHA’s corporate portal and provide a home page view for displaying high-level statistics and data trends.
Users can drill down into the high-level statistics to see summaries based on departments and further drill into underlying Business Objects reports for complete detail.
Quadrus also built an administrative system using Windows Forms and C# to manage access to the new web application. This enables the administrator(s) to set up metrics, specify candidates or departments, and perform overrides. It also provides filtering functionality to set up specific users, grant or deny access, and specify viewing permissions.
Faced with tight timelines, IHA and Quadrus worked together to meet all project goals and deadlines. IHA’s role was critical in this positive outcome, and they provided superior project management skills to make this project a success.
In the end, IHA’s project goals were met on time and under budget. They are pleased to be able to view performance metrics, gain insight into where potential issues might lie – and why – in order to better serve their valued clients.
